CO2 Anaesthetising Plant
CO2 Anaesthetising plant for pigs. The principles of CO2 stunning rely on animal welfare by reducing the level of stress in pigs which results in meat of better quality due to the fact that there is less incidence of blood splashing and broken bones and less incidence of PSE meat compared to electrical stunning.
The plant consists of an upper section and a lower section (pit). At the bottom of the pit there is 85-90% CO2 concentration which renders the pigs unconscious so that the bleeding can be performed without pain or convulsions.
The main advantages of a CO2 system are the following:
- Pigs enter the plant completely unstressed due to the special design of both the driving way and the CO2 plant.
- No restraint. Restraint is an extreme stressor for pigs and they often struggle wildly in the restrainer.
- Less incidence of PSE meat.
- More effective bleeding (faster and more constant) and blood recovery.
- It provides easier sticking as pigs are completely relaxed.
